good weekend

saturday was softball practice and since only seven people showed up we did batting practice which let me pitch a few hundred pitches and field my position and take a few dozen swings and that is the kind of practice i personally need much more than the other types of practices and the foot/ankle held up well... stress aching, but no direct injury-related pain worth noting, just discomfort... the best results yet from the foot testing... and after the 6 laps on friday, this is definitely good news...

sunday i woke early and felt wired and went for a brisk walk with a little bit of run and then rested and then did 20 minutes on the elliptical at level 7 down to level 3 and clocked 1.64 miles and around 180 calories (calories was an estimate) and pulse peaked over 150bpm... then went to the weights and used 80 pounds for 3 reps each on the two upper body machines and another 2 more on the pull down and felt it good (hurt so good, huh?)...

today is a rest day, mostly, especially since the weather is really wet and windy (bands of Isaac)... good day not to have to go outside...

Hi, I have wandered over here after trying to research my foot injury, to discover your blog all about your healing of your foot. So hi! I'm going to continue reading now. Where are you located generally speaking?

I've just read all your posts from April to August about your foot injury, unfortunately I am a total lesbian so I will say that up front. I've been on crutches for one month. Thank you so much for all the detailing of the injury and healing. Now you see you have benefitted someone - me, with your writing. I am sorry the healing was a lonely process - I am single also and would sure benefit from someone being able to do the laundry, buy the groceries -- I will stop here and see if you see this. And by the way, did I say thank you? ;-}

And how is the job search going by the way - ? I'm so, so sorry about that terrible event.

wow, cool, thanks :)

that's wow, responses and cool, the words actually were of some help and thanks for letting me know and for caring...

located in orlando, florida - east side not far from ucf (university of central florida) and around rouse and the 408 if you are local...

nothing unfortunate about being a lesbian (just playing with the word unfortunate, i doubt you meant it as unfortunate for you, but maybe you see humor in the tease of how the words play - semantics are fun for me... if not, no offense intended)... so seriously, we aren't gonna fall in love and as cliche as is sounds, it's nonetheless true - my best friend is a lesbian (you don't happen to be brandi carlile?... sort of an inside joke - my roommate's crazy about her) and homophobia is definitely not welcome in our house or around me...

you're welcome and i am so happy that my babblings were of some use... mostly i write to let the junk fall out of my head, mentally de-clutter, learn from my mistakes, and figure myself and life out... i blog/write a lot in dozens of blogs for all sorts of reasons, but i post the words on the internet hoping they are of some use to someone other than me so you telling me they are inspires a huge smile here :)

you are so welcome - and appreciated :)

and you remind me that i was very very lucky to have a best friend roommate who shopped and cooked and served me and cleaned up and took care of mobility challenges for me for that first month or so when every movement was a challenge... she's an blessing... i doubt i gave her the credit she deserved in this blog cuz this blog is compartmentalized to be me listening to my body and letting it talk to me, so to speak...

the biggest challenge is finding the patience to wait out the healing and the discipline to not put pressure on the foot/ankle for a couple of months... accepting the loss of running, softball, and just about every other activity was the toughest part... i finally took steps without the crutches after about two months and then walked ginerly with the foot/ankle wrapped and in a sneaker with good arch support... i am am just now starting to walk in moccasins without any support and this week i start playing softball again - asking for a pinch runner if i get on base... here too my roommie was a big help because of her own experience with an injury and she yelled at me every time i talking about pushing the healing process reminding me how long term problems can come from walking on it too early or too much...

so take it slow as you can... how did you injure yourself and what sort of injury?...

as for work, thank you for your caring words... i put the job search on hold after a month or so... the market was depressing and i decided to take advantage of the time off available between jobs to enjoy the summer and de-stress... it means pinching pennies, but i had not had a vacation (a full week off) in more than 11 years so this rest and refresher is a blessing in disguise... i should start searching more seriously soon and remain hopeful...

i appreciate your words and caring - and i hope your healing goes well... feel free to share more if you like or if it helps in any way... candoor@gmail.com is my email and bugs webbot is my facebook name (though i don't check email often)... remember patience - take care :)

my name is ric :)

Hi Ric, how fun to hear back from you! It is late here - I am in Chicago. I have got to get to sleep and rest the foot. My weekend is packed with a workshop and work and my foot - I retweaked it yesterday and now it looks like it did before I turned the corner on the healing - a little setback. I promise to write more - what is best - here or facebook or e-mail? More by Mondayish if not sooner. I'd love to keep in touch. I had my first MRI on Friday and a new doctor will look to confirm that I have one or more fractures (there is no pain). More later!

whatever works for you - though if you email let me know so i can set up a filter and remember to check email more - i get so much junk mail i need to put friends in a filter just to find their emails... email is more private if you want to share anything you don't particularly want available on the public web (like these comments)... i do check facebook more than email, but i am flexible...

i love to write and share written words... you can test how much of my ability to keep in touch i've lost over the years... there was a time i corresponded with many friends through the written word, even snail mail (yes, letters with stamps)... my intentions are good :)

i'd say email or private facebook messages for anything you don't want just anyone to be reading - comments on blogs whenever you find something interesting to inspire a comment :)
